Song collected from Gilleaspa MacInnes [Archibald MacInnes], Ionnar Ruai[dh], An t-shraid an ard [High Street, Inbhir Ruaidh/Inverroy, Inverness-shire] beginning 'A liud fear agus [eadside], Agus eadra chai a thachadh'. The song is composed of nine lines and is noted as being composed 'By a Glen Coe man' [Gleann Comhann, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire]. Text has been scored through as if transcribed elsewhere.

Story probably collected from Donald MacColl, foxhunter, Glencreran, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire, about the Duke of Argyll and Dailness Royal Forest [Royal Forest of Dalness, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], of which the duke was forester. Coll MacDonald, writer to the signet in Edinburgh, was allowed to fill the forest with sheep.

Scope and Contents Story about the sheep stealers Eowan buidhe na h uamh [Eòghan Buidhe na h-Uamh] and his wife, who lived in Eigineig in Uamh Eow[i]n [Uamh Eòghain, Eignaig, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] telling how they would cross over to Lios Mòr/Lismore by boat at night to steal sheep, describing where he would hide at Alltaogain [Allt Aogain], while his wife drove the sheep past. There was a 'strong black sheep' which he was never able to catch and so he called out 'Tharam fha[tha]st caora dhu[bh] mo...

Scope and Contents

Story entitled 'Caora Dhubh na Bachuill' collected from Donald Macgrigor [Donald MacGregor], Bailegarbh [Baile Garbh, Lios Mòr/Lismore] about a black sheep, belonging to Domhnall Dubh nan Aird [Sir Donald Campbell of Airds], which was stolen and the sheepskin was found hanging from the rafters of the Baron of Bachuil's barn, for which the Baron was threatened with hanging. In order to spare himself the Baron was forced to hand over several pieces of land.
